How to use it
-
Paste or type your script
Drop it into the box above. Paragraphs stay where you put them, and the line under the box tells you how long the read takes at the speed you picked.
-
Press Start
Your text fills the screen in white on black. The first line sits next to the amber marker at the very top of the screen, just under a laptop’s webcam. Text width narrows the column so your eyes stay near the lens. On a Zoom or Meet call, put this window right under the webcam. Press Space or Play when you’re ready.
-
Read and steer
Space pauses, and the up and down arrows change the speed while you talk; the time left updates as you go. Esc pauses; press it again to go back to your script. If moving text makes you queasy, Page Down jumps a screen at a time without any scrolling.

For a teleprompter glass rig
Glass reflects the screen backwards, so flip the text: put the laptop or tablet under the glass and turn on the horizontal mirror. If your rig also shows the picture upside down, add the vertical one. The amber marker flips with the text and stays next to the line you’re on.
Filming yourself on a phone?
AnyCue for iPhone puts your script right under the front camera while it films you, so your eyes stay near the lens. You get 5 videos to start and 2 a month after that, all without a watermark. With Pro, the script can also float over the Camera app.
Questions
Is this teleprompter really free?
Yes, with no limit on scripts, reading time or recordings. You don’t sign in, there are no ads, and videos you record here come out without a watermark.
Is my script uploaded anywhere?
No. It stays in this browser’s storage on your device, where we can’t see it. The Clear button under the text box deletes it.
Does it work offline?
Reading does, once the page has loaded, so the script keeps rolling if the Wi-Fi drops mid-speech. Recording loads the first time you press Record, so press it once while you’re still online; after that it works offline too, until you reload the page.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes, in Safari or Chrome, recording included. To film yourself on an iPhone, the AnyCue app puts your script right under the front camera, so you look at the lens.
Can I control it with a remote clicker?
Yes, if it sends arrow keys, Page Up and Page Down, or Space, as most presentation clickers do.
Does it follow my voice?
No. The text scrolls at the speed you set; change it while you talk with the up and down arrows, or pause with Space or a clicker.
How long will my script take to read?
The line under the text box estimates it at your speed. Level 3 is about 150 words a minute, a calm talking pace; level 1 is about 86 and level 10 about 375.
Will it remember where I stopped?
Yes. Close the tab halfway through and the next Start picks up at the same line. Start over in the panel, or the Home key, takes you back to the top.
Can I read black text on white?
Yes. The sun button in the panel switches to a white background with black text, and the page remembers your choice.
Can I record myself, and where does the video go?
Yes. Press Record and allow the camera and microphone; after a 3-second countdown the text starts rolling and recording begins. When you stop, you can watch the take and download it. It isn’t uploaded to us or anyone else. Download it before you close the page, or it’s gone.
What’s different in the iPhone app?
The app scrolls your script right under the iPhone’s front camera while it films, so your eyes stay close to the lens, and with Pro the script floats in a small window over the Camera app. This page records too, but it can only show the text inside the browser tab.
Something isn’t working. Who do I tell?
